What this is

Each chronicle is an interactive map covering a period of history. Every event is placed where it happened, connected to the wider conflict and the key people involved. You can filter by theatre, search by name, and read a sourced write-up for each one.

Showing the working

Most history resources just give you the conclusion. These try to give you the evidence behind it, including the bits that don't hold up well. If ancient accounts contradict each other, we say so. If a date is uncertain, we give the range rather than picking one and hoping for the best. If modern scholarship has overturned something the Victorians took for granted, we explain what changed.

Every factual claim links to at least one cited source. The sources panel lists everything we consulted, primary and secondary, with notes on reliability and bias. The audit trail flags which claims have been independently verified and which are still contested.

The collection

There are currently twelve chronicles covering about five thousand years, from the first cities of Mesopotamia to the Cold War. New ones get added as the research gets done, and existing chronicles are updated when better sources turn up.

Pricing

The Mesopotamia chronicle is completely free, and it always will be. It's the full thing, not a cut-down teaser, so you can see whether this is actually useful to you before spending anything. The rest are available individually or as a library subscription. See the pricing page for details.
